History; The mudi dog is a rare herding breed that originated in Hungary. Not much is known of the species, as they are so scarce, but the few members of the species that survive to this day have their own culture and history that mothers and fathers pass from pup to pup. These rare canines have, within the hundreds of years that they have been around, developed their own culture and history where there, to humans, is none. They are a very close knit race, as almost every Mudi dog is born in Hungary and stays there for their lifespan, and Kerosene herself is no exception.
She was born the first pup in a litter of three. The other two were stillborn at birth, and as the only surviving pup in the litter, she was spoiled from the very start. Her owners- or, rather, the people that were graced with her and her parents presence- doted upon her from a young age, supplying toys and food hard to come by in their rural town. When she was weaned, and hit a trainable age, she and her owner were out every day, starting into a rigorous training course to have her in top physical condition. She was trained to compete in agility and flyball trials, as well as obedience and herding events, to bring in prizes for her human family to boast about to their neighbors. For the first three years of her life, that is exactly what this canine did- bringing in ribbons, cups, and money from all of the ‘sports’ she had become the epitome of excellence at. She traveled with her owners all over the world to compete with other dogs. Sometimes she won, sometimes she lost, but in the end everything usually evened out enough to keep her owners happy- but it was a boring life, and not one the dog wanted for herself.
At two years of age, she ‘escaped’ from a holding kennel in a foreign country before an agility show. She left her owners behind, as well as all thoughts of her family, and headed out into the streets to live off the fat of a more urbanized area- New York City. She spent a year roaming the streets, aligning herself with bloodthirsty gangs, exploring with cult-like packs, and generally just causing a ruckus. Picked up by dog catchers at this age, she was locked up in the pound. Upset at this, she took to snarling and biting at her captors- a trait that prevented most from going near her, let alone adopting her.
Kerosene cannot remember what happened between that time and the moment she awoke on the island. The last thing she remembers was being locked away in a cage, the noise of dogs barking all around her- and that, most peculiarly, was a little over two years ago. Whatever has happened between that time and now is a complete blank to the canine, and though it would normally puzzle others, she simply accepted her mind slip and moved on.
When Kerosene awoke from the strange slumber, and regained what little memory and consciousness she had left, she was lying on the beaches of an island. She isn’t quite sure where she is, or how she got there, but she isn’t the type to ask for answers that can be figured out herself.
Personality;
Confident- She is so sure of herself, and so set in whatever she does, that the air of confidence she emits can also be mistaken as arrogance. She never doubts her decisions, or looks back on what she could have done better- her sights are always set on the future, and never the past. The way she moves portrays this trait- every step is sure, every twitch or shake gaged out for just the right effect. She is so self-assured that it is hard to shake her into something that can't be described as one of her comfort zones.
Daredevil- There is nothing this dog enjoys more than the rush of doing something dangerous. She loves to race and jump, and heights literally have this dog in a state of pure bliss. The crazier the stunt, the more she lusts after it- from leaping off a cliff into water, or racing away from a pursuing enemy, she will attempt anything as long as it gets her blood pumping and her mind racing.
Intelligent- She may do stupid stunts, but this dog is far from dumb. She is clever at calculating plans and statistics, and puts this to use when doing anything particularly touch-and-go. Kerosene is good with puzzles and things she has to work out, and has a love of figuring things out that rivals even her love for crazy, adrenaline-pumping acts. Her breed is notable for being clever, and she does not lack in the brains category her species displays.
Damaged- Before her time in the pound, Kerosene ran with a bad crowd. She walked the streets with bloodthirsty gangs who had no regards for rules, and was constantly forced into undesirable positions by her lack of strength and overall small size. She has been mentally and physically scarred by her life in New york, and carries those problems with her everywhere she goes. Despite the fact that she will proudly show off all her glorified cuts and bite wounds, she still considers them to be marks of her inability to protect herself. She has a particularly nasty series of cuts and lacerations all around her neck and the underside of her body that are still red and raw, as if the marks are recent. They are difficult to see beneath her fur, but not impossible to be spotted if she is under scrutiny.
Competitive- A good competition has her body quivering in pleasure. She loves racing- the feeling of wind through her fur, and the sight of her own paws flying over the ground- and loves to find 'opponents' who will treat her to such a bout. While she is very competitive when the action is going on, she is never a sore winner or loser afterward. Her drive to do her best dissipates when the actual competition ends, and everything before and after simply slips back into a peaceable lull.
Outgoing- Kerosene loves other dogs. She might not enjoy being touched or brushed by them, but she loves to talk, and she loves to meet new canines. She is rarely at a loss for words or actions when meeting someone she hasn't before, and her overall peppy attitude usually keeps most around her entertained, if her deep questions do not. She thrives in attention, as well as solidarity, and enjoys putting herself on the line for everyone to judge and like accordingly. Overall, she is just a bouncy, peppy, social ball of curled fur and pointy ears.
Affectionate- When you capture her trust, or generally just capture her interest, this little dog lavishes attention on you. She loves her friends, as well as strangers, and even has a particularly soft spot for dogs that dislike her. She is big on greetings and tender moments, and will often attempt to brush up against or touch noses with other canines that she particularly likes.
Clueless- About love and other things, despite her age. She doesn't really get the whole 'birds and bees' thing, and though she has been forced into undesirable positions where such things could happen in her past, she truthfully has never experienced anything of that sort. She understands the concept of liking someone- as she enjoys many dogs company, and would go to great lengths for almost anyone- but love is a foreign idea. Her love, in her opinion, stretches out to everyone, and is not exclusive. One day, when she meets her match, she'll probably snap out of her naivety, but until that day, she continues to be a naive ball of fluff.
Appearance; Kerosene weighs in at 29 lbs and stands 19 inches at the withers. For her species, that is quite large, but in comparison to a German shepherd, or an afghan hound, she is relatively small. Her legs are long, like most of her species, and end in dainty little paws for that extra agility that her kind is praised for.
The most interesting thing about Kerosene appearance –wise would be her coat. She has the unique, species-specific coat of a Mudi dog. The fur on her body is long and curled, scalloped over into distinct ringlets that cannot be found on any other canine species. It is thick and hardy, much like sheep’s wool, and colored in a unique black merle pattern that gives her a very monochromatic look. This black and white fur fades from form tight scallops to short, black fur on her legs and face, again, making her resemble a sheep in the overall placement of the different textures of her coat. The white splotches that her thicker fur contains are noticeable in lines and spots around her face- perfectly symmetrical marks that give her a very intricate facial pattern.
Speaking of her face, Kerosene has a hexagonal face shape, with a small, pointed muzzle that sports a small black nose on its tip. Her ears are large and triangular; much like a shepherd in their shape, but the fur is longer around the bases and generally shortens as you head to the tip of her ear. The inner ears of this dog- visible from the front- are a coppery pink-brown shade, and add the slightest twinge of color to her overall appearance. Her eyes are a tad on the large side, and are colored a bright, intense shade of brown that also stands out against her coat.
Likes & Dislikes;
[+] Running- she is a very athletic species of dog, and cannot do without constant exercise. She likes to feel the wind in her face and have her paws flying over the ground. She is particularly fond of racing, as it reminds her of agility trials, and she always enjoyed those.
[+] Lightning- it intrigues her. Lightning can start fires easily, and it strikes out of no where, at whatever speed it pleases. The concept of so much mystery- where does it come from? What is it made of? - peaks her interest.
[+] Fire- there is nothing this dog loves more than a good blaze. She enjoys the heat and the crackle of whatever is being burned. She loves the aroma of charred wood, and the leaping embers that bite up and nip careless dogs on the nose. She is, if nothing else, attracted to it.
[+] Water- it may contradict her love of fire, but this little dog loves swimming. She frolics in a storm, amid the thunder, lightning, and pelting rain as if she is a pup in a sunny meadow. There is nothing like a good dip after a bout of running.
[+] Being hurt- she's masochistic, so pain is her pleasure. She likes to sport scars and injuries, and wears them as if they are fashionable marks, strutting around at the perfect angle to flash a bite wound here, or a claw slash there.
[-] Howling- unless it is for a song, the sound of anything giving off a pained howl shakes her to the core. She heard thousands of 'death howls' when she was at the pound, and tries to avoid listening to any more.
[-] Too much Peace- she isn't the type of dog to go along with lazy days. She is a creature who loves excitement, and who thrives on danger, so she actively seeks such things out.
[-] Humans- she isn't particularly fond of them, despite her relatively happy puppy-hood. They just don't seem normal, in her opinion.
[-] Fog- something about it creeps her out. When the smoky gray haze of fog tips over the earth in the morning, she tries to keep out of it. Perhaps it is the thought of being so blind and lost that gets to her, but she usually tries to hole up somewhere when she thinks fog might roll on in.
[-] Boredom- it is a constant monster she must fight. She hates being idle, as mentioned, and hates being idle with nothing to look forward to or do most of all. When there is nothing to do, she'll make things for herself to do- such as exploring, or picking fights.
Goals & Desires;
[G] To live her life. Being stuck on an island is, truthfully, better than being stuck in a pound, and she intends to use her freedom to have as nice a time she can. She doesn't wish to be saved or rescued, and plans to spend her island time exploring, making friends, and generally just.... living.
[G] To explore the island. She is curious to know what the land she has awoken on contains, though a bit fearful of finding a way off it in the midst of her investigations. She doesn't want to leave, but she does want to map out the wonderful new land so she can navigate it better.
[G] To be a good dog. Basically, she aims to be as nice and pleasant as she can to everyone she meets in her life. Despite another canines attitude toward her, Kerosene will make an attempt to be sweet as sugar to them.
[D] To form a close knit group of friends, or a small, friendly 'gang' of some sort that she can lead. She wants to seek out canines that would follow her happily, and dogs that would become close enough to function like one big family. Truthfully, this idea is based off of the tight-knit community of Mudi dogs that she knew back home in Hungary, but she believes it can work with any kind of dog, any gender, and any personality.
[D] A mate. Every female dog does, though she isn't aware that a mate is what she craves yet. She simply wishes for a dog who can put up with her and match her stride for stride. In essence, she yearns for her other half, and actively seeks him out, as she had in New york.
[D] To lay on her back every night and simply gaze at the stars. While this may seem like a trivial desire, she desires for it to happen. When she was in the pound, the sky was never visible, let alone the night sky, and she wishes to make up for those times with a long period of gazing into the night whenever possible.
Strengths & Weaknesses;
Bringing canines together. No matter what walks of life, or what their attitudes and personalities are like, she is very good at drawing other dogs together. She is the bridge between two cities, and she attempts to draw others close wherever she goes. It usually works, as her bright personality is the glue to stick together new friends and allies. She is like a peacekeeper, a matchmaker, and a social butterfly all rolled into one small monochromatic package.
Causing worry. Her crazed stunts often have other dogs fearing for her survival. This is a strength, in her opinion, as it means she is likable enough to be feared for. While it isn't truly a strength in any aspect, as she can't harness anything from it, it makes the little dog feel happily empowered when others fret for her.
Finding things. Whether it is food, water, or good company, this canine has a good nose for discovery. She is particularly good at locating things she wants, whatever they may be, and back in New york, she could often uncover food and sleeping spaces faster than some of he friends, which lead to her comfort and good times.
[W] Trusting. She assumes everyone she meets is a good creature until proven otherwise, and treats everyone with an affectionate and friendly attitude. She tends to fall into friendship with the oddest of sorts, and it seems she has often been injured in this way for being too trusting of canines that truly only want to use her for their own nefarious reasons.
[W] Naive. She is too innocent to ever gage other dogs true intentions, and often works herself into sticky situations because of this.
[W] Greedy. She wants to get as much of anything as she can, without regards to how others might feel. She hoards up whatever she can find, and tends to strive to have more of anything than anyone else. While this isn't as much a weakness as a fault, it can be noted that she can be tempted into doing nearly anything if offered something that piques her interest and sets her eyes glistening with greed.
