History; Rio was born a stray in her town in Brazil. She had only one brother, Milo, a darker version of Rio herself. He could only be described as a shadow, quiet and calculating. She didn’t ever know her father, maybe because he hadn’t cared enough to stay with her mom further than conception. Rio’s mom, Natalie, had never talked about him much. Nevertheless, Rio grew up well and learned the tricks of the trade. In Brazil, being a stray was easier than it was in major cities like New York, or so she had heard. Rio, her mother told her, was the name of one of the most beautiful places in Brazil, just like Rio was one of the prettiest strays there. Lately, her brother had been acting strange, more quiet and spiteful when he did eventually speak. Milo disappeared at the age of one, but Rio was taught not to mourn too long. Whatever had happened, it couldn’t be changed and perhaps Milo was happier wherever he was now. Rio always thought of her mother as a sort of guardian angel, she was so softly spoken and loving, always had the right advice for her only surviving pup. However, Rio did not catch onto that personality. Her reckless side always managed to get her in trouble. In fact, one day Rio was out scavenging for food when she heard human voices and heavy footsteps. Instantly knowing the trouble coming, she took off. It had been a harsh winter, and Rio was starving so they eventually caught her and took her into a pound. It was horrible, the baying dogs never failed to make noise, and it grated on poor Rio’s nerves so badly that she’s been slightly nervous of too much noise since. The food was better than rotting trash though, and Rio enjoyed the chance to eat half decent food and sleep somewhere other than a dark alley in between favelas.
It was only a week before Rio finally got her strength up enough to escape. That particular memory is a blur, along with everything else. Escaping the pound had been the easy part, but it was disorientating that she had know idea where she was. The familiar scent of Rio de Janeiro was gone and all that surrounded the stray female was darkness and a furious roar.
That was when Rio’s world went blank and when she awakes, she’ll find that it’ll never be the same again.
Personality; Rio is a little hard to figure out. It really depends on what she feels like when she meets you, but we’ll get into that later. Rio is generally a quiet girl, contemplating situations under her ever-vigilant eye. Through the years she’s learned quite a lot, and she’s determined to learn more. However, unlike her mother, Rio doesn’t sit back in tough situations. If something is morally wrong, then she isn’t afraid to jump in and talk sense into whichever idiot decided to make her mad. In addition to this, she can have a bit of a temper on her, but only when she’s feeling a little desperate at the time. She tends to keep to herself and stay in the background if she can, but if she’s required to get involved, then she will and she’ll put all of her energy into it. Beyond her quiet personality is the mischievous rebel ready to get into any sort of fun trouble possible. It would all be easier if she had someone there to help her come out of her shell but Rio doesn’t find loneliness an issue and seldom goes out of her way to find a partner in crime. Once past the invisible barrier of her calculating silence, Rio’s really fun to be around. She’s full of her energy and optimism in understandable doses. However, around strangers she’s kind of wary, seeing as she doesn’t encounter them very often. Now I suppose she has trust issues too, since everyone close to her has disappeared from her life. Rio knows how to keep on, not letting anything bad from the past drag her down. What’s the point? Rio keeps her eyes forward and almost never looks back. It can sort of isolate her sometimes, keeping her from seeing the future. Right now she’s living in the present and doesn’t think much further than that.
Appearance; Rio is a standard Border Collie mix, and she has the fur texture and length generally of a border collie. However, the fur color is a little off, or completely reversed for that matter. Rio has thin, soft fur, colored an off, dull white. Little black flecks and smudges litter her beautiful coat. Because of the climate she was brought up in, it’s slightly thinner and shorter than the fur of a purebred border collie of England. Her eyes are crystal clear blue, and almost always give away her emotions. Generally they have a glimmer of mischief in them, a default setting really. Rio is an average sized dog, a little thinner and leaner and perhaps a tad taller than a normal Border Collie, but still average nonetheless. Her legs are long and well muscled, made for the sprinting and endurance her breed was bred for. Her ears are completely flaccid and never have been able to stand upright. Rio doesn’t have any scars since she prefers to avoid conflict and menacing dogs anyway. Her chest dips deeper than her waist, which shows her impressive lung capacity and sadly her ribs but give her a more feminine look than otherwise. Rio’s face is open and kind, but sometimes sort of sad and haunted. Perhaps it adds to her charm, but she’d never know it. This girl’s look is very original and there’s not many like her, but she wears it proud, standing tall and keeping her head up. Everything really in her looks reflects her personality.
Likes & Dislikes; Beach Rio absolutely loves beaches, growing up in Brazil provided her with a ton of opportunities to have fun with them. It just sort of reminds her of home.
Water If anything can soothe this girl when she’s anxious or stressed, than the feeling of cool water on her fur is it. Somehow, it reminds her that she’s not alone.
Sunshine Sunshine makes Rio feel positively alive, no matter how hot it is, she’ll be running or playing just to stretch her legs. Sunshine really does lift her spirit.
Running Rio isn’t one to sit still and watch things happen, she loves to run until she’s ready to drop. It makes her feel free and like she’s part of the world.
Hunting Even if she doesn’t catch anything, the thrill of racing something is just too hard to pass up to Rio. Sometimes she’ll stalk for fun, whether it’s a dog or potential dinner.
Darkness The fact that her life in Brazil ended in pitch blackness, doesn’t help the fact that Rio didn’t like the dark much in the first place. She always feels something waiting to happen and she sticks out like a sore thumb with her white fur.
Being Left Rio had deeply loved her brother, and when he disappeared, Rio constantly worried about her mother leaving. Now, as she has left her mother, she’s all alone and is too scared to invite anyone else into her life.
Thunder Most dogs don’t like thunder, the loud noise just cancels everything else out. Without her hearing, Rio feels positively miserable and the spontaneous outbursts of sound leave her whimpering sometimes.
The Unknown Rio doesn’t like not knowing what’s going on. Everything was so easy and straight forward in Brazil. Though usually Rio can toughen up and deal with the unknown. This place takes it to a whole new level.
Fights Arguments are okay, but physical fights scare Rio to death. She doesn’t want to hurt anyone and she doesn’t want to get hurt either.
Goals & Desires; To live Rio just wants to live her life, do all the things she’s ever wanted and have fun with it. She’s a simple soul, what can you do?
To find where she belongs Rio does, deep inside of her, want to be loved and to maybe have a family. Right now, friends are all she wants if she can get up the courage.
Get back Home Rio wants the familiarity of Brazil around her, she’s feeling a little homesick.
Get over her fears Rio doesn’t like to be scared, and she wishes that she can finally get over them all.
Find a Friend Maybe if she finds someone who won’t leave her, she’ll feel a little more settled.
Survive What dog doesn’t want to survive?
Strengths & Weaknesses; Commitment Everything from packs to a mate, Rio isn’t good at keeping. She doesn’t like things that will tie her down.
Crowds Too many dogs are not Rio’s idea of fun, she gets too nervous to concentrate sometimes if there are too many other dogs around.
Strong Will Rio doesn’t give up, and that’s one of her strengths. No matter how down things seem sometimes, she’ll find a way to get through it.
Realistic Rio knows what’s likely and what’s not likely to happen. Some may say she’s a pessimist, but she’s not, she is just, well realistic. She doesn’t get her hopes up too far if things may not work out.LONER.
