The blazing heat of the sun shone down on the monochromatic canines back, digging its warm tendrils under every curl and chunk of fur without mercy. It left the bearer of said fur panting and stretched drowsily out on the warm white sands. Feet in the air like a dead beast, and tongue lolling out of the side of her mouth, the little dog made quite the comical site- but, in her opinion and defense, lounging like that was a particularly great way to beat the heat. Wiggling blissfully from side to side, the little mudi dog ground her back into the grainy particles of sand, using the land to rub at a particularly itchy spot on her back. Ah. That was better. Rolling onto her side and kicking out her feet to send sand flying all around, the canine gazed intently across the ground in front of her from her tilted position.
She had left the canopy- where she had been exploring for quite some time- to come down and meet more canines on the beach, only to find, oddly enough, that there seemed to be a sufficient lack of furry bodies out in the sweltering glare of the island sun. She could understand why everyone had scuttled back into the shade, but, not keen on venturing up into the darker portions of the edge of the beach right yet, she had remained in her original position from a few hours before. Under the impression that, eventually, a dog would come see what exactly she was rolling about for, Kero had been romping around in the sand, undisturbed, for quite some time. It was a very fortunate thing that she could entertain herself, or the little dog might drive herself insane in her solitary battle with the heat.
As if the very thought had just occurred to her- that she was merely doomed to occupying herself by herself forever- the merle-marked dog rolled up into a crouch before springing to her feet to dart toward the water. It had been luring her for an hour or so now, calling her with its salty tang and the cool spray that whipped up and speckled her lounging body every so often. As soon as that first paw hit the cooling water, the little dog tumbled head over heels into the clear colored liquid, too excited to keep normal footing, and allowing the momentum to send her skittering into the rising water. She allowed the tide to push and pull her in the shallows for a few moments before paddling back and forth and barking peppily toward the shaded area of the beach, trying to get the attentions of the other dogs she believed to be up there.
"HEY! HEY SOMEBODY! I'M KEROSENE, COME SWIM WITH ME! IT'S HOT! C'MON!" Her voice sounded a bit squeaky, but the little female didn't seem to mind. Dipping beneath the water for a moment to stare at the little silvery fish that flickered through the waves through wide, salt-penetrated eyes, the canine disappeared from view. She popped up minutes later a bit to the left- as if, beneath the surface, she had followed the fish as he fled from the great... black and white... dog... beast! GRRR! Pouncing through the shallow water to where she had last seen the little fish, the mudi dog romped onward, remaining consistently parallel to the shore. She didn't want to be swept out into darker waters, now did she?
ooc: My muse is... bouncing up and down. This post might be a bit odd, as it is very late here, and I'm running on coffee, lemonade, and zebra cakes. 8D
Also, I left it open because I didn't know if you wanted it to be just Kero and Shady, or what, so. C:

What a Mess! This had been an interesting day yesterday. She'd woken up, a bedraggled mess in the sand, and wandered around the beach. Before spending the night in the underbrush, which was full of strange noises and ominous shadows.
In the morning, she had wretched herself awake, found a small animal to eat, her only choice of meal after a lot of chasing and not much success hunting, washed it down with a small pool of water that smelled at least a little less salty than the ocean, and then thrown herself down in a shady region of the beach, digging a pit in the sand about as wide and long as herself. The sand helped cool her down and she allowed herself a small pity party.
She had fallen asleep for awhile, letting her mind cope with the stress of a new place. Now she was awake, but watching the beach and it's wildlife. For awhile she watched two crabs grab at each other with their one giant claw. She was tempted to try and eat them, but she decided to watch them instead. They scuttled off when a ball of fur came tumbling into her view. Shady's relaxed ears pricked up, but she stayed hunkered down in her bunker. Sunlight often skewed the the ability to see into the shade but allowed the viewer in the dark to see out rather clearly and she'd rather get the intel first before rushing in.
She watched the other dog romp and roll, very obviously happy to be alive. The other dog's dark coat must be terrible in the hot sun, she couldn't understand how he or she could take it. Shady's eyes squinted as she looked up toward her enemy, the big ball of fire in the sky called the sun. A reflexive growl grumbled out of her for a moment, before being startled back to reality.
"HEY! HEY SOMEBODY! I'M KEROSENE, COME SWIM WITH ME! IT'S HOT! C'MON!" the little dog barked from the water.
The water... Shady had never swam in the ocean, but she'd lived around big lakes before and those had never plagued her. She clambered out of her little den and shook out her fur, the sand spraying in all directions. Her tail curved up, a flag-less banner, and waved happily before she charged out into the light, eyes closed until she could feel the sun beat down on her back so her vision would come together faster, ears relaxed and laid back.
"Hello!" she barked, plunging into the water a few feet away from Kerosene, relishing in the coolness that flooded over the heat of the day on her back. (How great to swim!) They call me Shady.

Her fish had fled! It had dashed out at the last second of her pounce, proving once and for all that aquatic creatures could out-swim the GIGANTIC DOG MONSTER any given day. But that didn't matter to Kerosene, oh no- she was in the water! The liquid was wilting her curls and sliding over her skin, and all was right with the little Island world she had landed on.
In the water before her, another fish darted, its glinting silver scales luring her beneath the waves. She may not ever catch anything, but at least it was an amusing chase. Her head was under when the other dog came. The first thing she saw of the other was her feet- solid black masses plunging into the ocean in front of her. Underwater, Kerosene let out a surprised squeak. Someone... actually answered her calling? YES! New FRIEND! Surfacing, the little dog panted joyfully as the water swirled around her submerged form. She blinked in annoyance at the sun for a mere moment before twirling once in the cooling water and facing the other dog.
"Hello!" The female had said, as seemingly blissful in the water as Kero herself. "They call me Shady." Oh! A new friend that liked to swim! Or... at least, was curious about Kero's constant rolling about in the surf. Her lips stretched into a doggy grin as the other dog spoke her own name. "Well hello to you too, Shady!" She said, digging her paws into the shifting ocean sand and allowing the tide to push her back and forth. This... was utter paradise. A warm day, a cool ocean, and company.... it was a nice combination of things she enjoyed! "So!" The little dog barked, tongue lolling in the heat and general happiness of the situation. Time to get down to the real question!
"When did you wake up? I came down on the beach yesterday but everyone was either asleep or in the shade... And I don't really like venturing up into the darker bits of the island... or at least the ones by the beach... the jungle is fine... Especially the canopy! Oh... I could stay up there forever..." She was rambling, trailing off, and generally just spouting strings of words that popped into her head, as if so excited to be talking that she couldn't stop. A brief thought darted in past those of the conversation- was she talking too much? Would it annoy this dog? This... er.. Shady? - but it was just as quickly banished. Who cared? Maybe this new friend wouldn't.
ooc: Not very long, and kinda rambly. Sorry it took me so long, too. <3
