History; Picked up somewhere over seas, the pup started off as a little captain's prize. From the time she had been born to the time she had been picked she had just been another stray down at the docks eating off of fish scraps and running off with tail tucked from angry dock employees. One day a ship cruised up and little did she know her life would begin here. A tall man with light eyes and the position of captain came and scooped up the little lost soul. Kahlua was his mate, stumbling behind his heals like a loyal friend. Named a tropical name, Kahlua, the captain found it fit seeing she was a boat dog now. Years passed by and many things happened, as they went port to port, traveling the world. Kahlua protected the ship as it was docked keeping weary strangers from intruding. One of these fine sailing days turned tragic as a storm passed over, the sailed tugged tight from the whipping winds. The stress on a frayed rope became to tense, and it snapped. Clueless Kahlua had been weathering storm huddled beside the mast, in a split second the loose pulley hurled through the air in her direction. Her owner jumped in front of her, the sharp metal catching his skull, struck his eye leaving the captain blind and startled. Stumbling back the crash of the waves caught his dizziness tossing him to the floor out cold. Kahlua comforted her owner through the night, and when she woke the morning was emerging and the winds had calmed. A bandage remained over her owner's bloodied eye. It had been a good year and a half on the sea, and the captain was growing weary in his last few years reading to retire. So the ship returned home, to the shipyard Kahlua then claimed as her territory. Not used to still grounds, or the absence of a constant salty spray she didn't fair well far from her ocean. They had tried to house him in the suburbs, but Kahlua was rather depressed away from the life he had known so long. So the Captain, also dock master, deemed Kahlua guard of the shipyard. Still fed and watered by his trusty owner Kahlua always remained at the dock wander as she pleased, taking refuge upon boats for shelter enjoying that old ocean sway. After about half a year, the Captain decided to venture the seas one last time. And so, he set off with his crew and loyal dog. Kahlua enjoyed being on the ship again. The feeling was irreplaceable, the action, the endless ocean, the thrill of a bad storm, and of course lots of other things. All was going well until a horrible storm came along. The waves were high and lightning struck the ship. After a while, the ship began to sink and Kahlua was forced to leave behind her loving master and her beautiful seafaring life. She struggled that night to swim against the waves and take the storm head-on. Even though she struggled, she made it to a weird island before passing out from exhaustion right on the shore. The next morning, she woke up on the beautiful island, surprised and alone. Personality; Loyalty and honesty are two main traits for Kahlua. When it comes to being honest, she will just blurb out what she wants to say, and if not, she will tell the dog or other animal in private, one-on-one. She is not very sensitive at all, so that means that she can handle any tough situation that she comes in contact with. At times she can be quite sassy and fiery, so she is better off hanging out with males, since they are less sensitive and more tough. She can actually be a bit harsh and blunt, and plenty sarcastic when she wants to be. In a way, she is kind of like a tom boy, but definitely not to the point to where she likes females, that would just be disturbing, especially for a canine. She loves to explore and have fun with other dogs, especially play. She absolutely loves to play with others, and its actually one of her favorite things to do. She is also a winner, she just loves to win, so that makes her a bit of the selfish type. She isn't a big fan of caring for or helping others, so she prefers just caring for herself and/or her own family. But if someone is in desperate need of help, she will go far out of her way to find someone, or she'll just help herself. Kahlua has a very warm heart, she has lots of faith and needs quite a bit of encouragement when saddened. She easily loses confidence, so that means she gives up easily. What she really needs is someone telling her what to do and when to do it, like her owner does sometimes. She needs someone other than her owner, though, such as a mentor, lover, best friend or something close to that. Kahlua is definitely a daredevil. She will do about anything, no matter how dangerous. This female may look frail and petite, but those two words don't describe her at all. She will do anything she is put up to, and she isn't afraid to get down and dirty. Mostly, she is daring because she loves the thrill she gets from taking risks and doing things she is not supposed to do, but sometimes she would be a daredevil to prove to others that she isn't who they think she is. She isn't really a skittish dog, more like "mess with me and I'll rip your throat out." She isn't a fighter, but if you really get her mad then there's going to be a price to pay. This female has some really bad trust issues. She has difficulties trusting others and it takes a while to gain her trust, whether it takes days, weeks, months, or maybe even years. Unsurprisingly, Kahlua has somehow managed to develop a quick tongue. Often being the one to say that almost impossible figure of speech that'll immediately end the conversation where she wants it to end. However, her quick tongue isn't just for ending conversations- she can develop witty come backs and humorous remarks without hardly thinking. She can make very rude remarks to those who anger her, and she loves it because she knows some get frustrated because they don't have a quick tongue like her. Another interesting thing about Kahlua is that she loves to let loose and have fun. She is known to be the "party." No matter what, Kahlua almost always wants to have fun, depending on her mood and the situation at the time. It also depends on who she's with and if she can be herself around them. When she does let loose and have fun, she can be a heck of a dog to be with, in a good way! Appearance; Since Kahlua's dog breed, the Toller, runs as much as they swim when hunting, she is smaller and more agile than most other retrievers. She stands at 20 inches tall and weighs in at 50 pounds. Her powerful yet compact build enables her to run around tirelessly, leaping and retrieving with a tail always wagging. Her gait is very graceful and elegant, just like her in general. She carries an equal amount of speed, strength, and stamina, but she excels more in speed since she is very athletic. Her jaws are strong enough to carry a duck, dead or alive. Because her breed was bred to work in icy waters, she has a water-repelling double coat of medium length. Kahlua's main fur color is different shades of golden-brown, and she has white markings on a few parts of her body. She has mocha brown eyes, a pinkish colored nose, and pink paw pads. Build & Structure; She is a powerful girl, but she is also compact. Her ears are triangular and set high and are well back from the skull. Her head is clean-cut and slightly wedge-shaped. She has a well-muscled body that is built upon sturdy, solid legs. Her nose is medium-sized and colored kind of pinkish, a common trait for the toller breed. Her tail is long and wavy, held proudly like a banner. Coat Markings & Fur; Kahlua's coat is dense, and comes in various shades of beautiful red and orange. She has a white streak from her muzzle to forehead and she has white on her chest and tips of her paws. The fur on her back is only slightly wavy.
