LucyGerman Shepherd/Labrador , Two years , Female . History; I’m alive and I’m free. Who wouldn’t wanna be me? She had what would have been the American Dream from a dog’s perspective. A good stable family, a yard to run in, a white picket fence with azaleas sending their fragrant tendrils up and down the posts, and a jingly heart shaped tag with her name engraved on it. Lucy had it all. She spent her care-free days rollicking on the family acres with her brothers and sisters; four butterballs with flopping tongues and perpetual smiles, being lovingly watched over by the contented, sedate dog that bore them. For the first four months of her life, Lucy was content to roam the fields owned by the Griffin family, safely fenced off from the world that lay beyond. She had everything she needed, didn’t she? There goes my life. There goes my future, my everything. But all good things must come to an end and Lucy had to endure one of the most common crises in the dog world: watching her blood family get sent off to strange new worlds, taken by strange new people that she would never again see. For days after she would sit against the border to their property, nose pressed against the chain link, eyes searching desperately, ears pricked for sounds of her sisters’ laughter or her brother’s raunchy jokes. As the weeks passed she continued her vigil, but something inside her changed: a snapping of her heart strings, the clock-stopped silence in her soul brought on by commonplace betrayal. Another week, another month passed by and the scents of her family went from stale to non-existent. The loneliness drove her to the brink of insanity. I don’t care what you think, I’m not seeing a shrink. I’m not doing this again. On the day of her first emotional meltdown, Lucy bailed on her old life. She had an opportunity and she took it: a gap in the fence brought on by nature’s decay. Her goal was as it had been: to re-unite with her family. Lucy set off to find them having nothing to go on, no clues or leads, no scents or evidence. She was driven by her desire to be loved again, needed once more. She skirted every farm, peered through every fence in her local area, only to be met by the snarling of guard dogs or the ornery mooing of lazy cows. When it became apparent that her family was nowhere to be found locally, she knew the only option was to travel further and leave behind, once and for all, the home to which she had given her puppyhood. What kind of gone are we talkin’ bout here? Weeks passed. Her appearance went from pampered family mutt to scraggly street cur. She had still not found her family but worse than that, her mental state was beginning to deteriorate from perpetual solitude. Her health declined. It became apparent that she was on a downward spiral to her way out of this world. Some beach…some where… Now she’s on a beach, or rather, an island, with no recollection of her past whatsoever. She doesn’t know how she got here, she doesn’t know where to go from here. The only thing she’s certain of are her dreams, which are sporadic, brief snippets of young dogs she has no experience of meeting. All she knows is she woke up bedraggled, weak and hungry. Now it’s time to pick up the remains of her life and move forward, where ever that may be.
Personality; Extroverted Lucy has quite the time with others, and has no qualms with embarking on a boisterous romp among the swaying grasses with someone she barely knows at all. She embodies the typical in-your-face attitude of an adolescent with too much energy and too little time to spend it. Whether she’s chewing your ear off (verbally, of course) or running around you in circles until you’re both a little dizzy, she has to be in your business and she has to be in your business with a vengeance. She’s an admitted thrill-seeker, always the first to go bounding off on an adventure, though things usually go awry. She asserts her opinions loudly but kindly, always trying not to tread on any paws, so to speak. She’s your general all-around happy-go-lucky little camper, and darned proud of it.
Aggressive There are go-getters and there are couch potatoes content to let life pass them by. Lucy is the former. She has her goals and she intends to pursue them, not stopping at any cost. If the stakes are high, she doubles them until she comes out on top. Some may view her as overbearing; others may view her as driven. Either way, at the end of the day when the only things that really matter come in to play, she knows that if she goes down then at least she’ll go down swinging, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
Altruistic If there was ever a dog in need of assistance, Lucy would be the first rushing to its aid and after everything was said and done, would not be bothered if they disappeared from her life completely. It’s not that she’s anti-social or persnickety; it’s that she knows from experience what it’s like to be in need and have nobody at your side, so she purposely puts herself out for others. She thinks that doing good deeds based on the reward is in and of itself fruitless because then it isn’t a good deed; it’s a transaction.
Appearance; She was never exactly the pretty puppy of the litter; with no flashy markings, no bold colors or unique features to speak of. She is your average golden mutt: half Labrador Retriever and half German Shepherd. In comparison to the breeds of her heritage she is built very small and slender, standing only 20 inches at the shoulder and topping out at 50 pounds during a good month. She isn’t barrel chested like most of her Labrador counterparts or tall and stocky like most Shepherds. She was the runt of her litter, which may contribute some to her diminutive stature. She has a dusting of black and dark brown hairs that runs from her shoulders to the tip of her sickle tail in a saddle pattern that dates back to her Shepherd blood, as does her black muzzle which tapers to a softened point. Her ears are velvet and in proportion to her delicate head; a darker shade of golden brown than the rest of her coat. Her dark brown eyes are accented by thick rims of black that give her an almost wistful appearance. She stands on thin yet strong legs that end in firm, round paws. On her chest she sports a white blaze that is vaguely reminiscent in shape to a guiding star, very closely resembling the chest blaze her mother had. Her fur is short but plushy, providing her with a sense of comfort in the winter months and an almost unbearable feeling of suffocation during the summer months.
Likes & Dislikes; LIKES COMPANY She loves being in the presence of others; talking to them, pestering them, playing with them and etc. She has always had an innate desire to belong, whether it be to a family or a group of friends, she just needs to be around others to feel at ease with herself. RAIN The sound of rain has always been hypnotic, even a natural sleep aid to her. She also appreciates the natural aesthetic beauty that it possesses. BOYS Though not a regular flirt, Lucy does appreciate the romantic attention of male dogs. It’s one of the only things that can boost her self-esteem when she falls into one of her hopeless fits. SWIMMING Whether it be in the salty ocean waves or the calm, placid mirror of the lake she once lived near, a swim is not only good exercise but also a perfect way to cool off when the summer’s heat becomes too unbearable. GAMES Any game that could provide hours of entertainment is A-okay with her, especially if it’s in the company of a friend or new acquaintance. Nobody likes to be bored.
DISLIKES
|
HEAT Due to her thick, plushy undercoat, Lucy cannot stand being in the heat. It gives her a suffocated feeling and can lead to her becoming dizzy if she remains in it for any length of time. LONELINESS As mentioned before, the one thing above all other things that she can’t stand is being alone. It seems to eat at her soul, as she likes to say, and can send her into fits of depression. SELFISHNESS Dogs who only do things for their personal gain really irritate Lucy to no end, and she has no problem speaking up against them. She believes in kindness for all without reward. LOW SELF-ESTEEM One thing that drags her down is her low self-esteem. She can’t explain why she has it, but the result of any sort of failure can send her down into the depths of her self-loathing and despair, where analysis of her actions and those of others around her only contribute to this perpetuated feeling of melancholy. BOREDOM She gets antsy. She must be moving, interacting or talking at all times or she gets bored. Boredom leads to her doing stupid things for entertainment. Goals & Desires;GOALS -She would like to find out why she keeps having these repetitive dreams about dogs she doesn’t remember. They flash through her subconscious like random cuts in strips of film, brief and unexplainable. She would like to at least know who the dogs are and if she once had known them and somehow forgot them. -Lucy would like to become a member of something. Not just any member, though, but an esteemed one with some sort of rank. She believes she has a great sense of justice and leadership and would like to help others and guide them. -She would like to at least find out how she got to this strange new place, since she has no recollection of arriving here, and no idea how she might have achieved that great feat either. She would also like to form fast friendships with at least some of the island dogs, as she believes they might hold some strange knowledge or power in their paws. DESIRES -Lucy would like to fall in love and have it requited, as she believes that may be the only way to save herself from her fits of low self-esteem. She also wants a feeling of completeness. -She loves to make friends, so one of her wants is to find a “soul friend”, or a best friend that she can depend on no matter what. -She loves helping others so her greatest desire is to make sure those around her are protected and cared for, because we all need a helping hand sometime or another. Strengths & Weaknesses;STRENGTHS -She is great at planning and leading, with a natural sense of what needs to be done and how to do it. This came from being the runt and having to prove herself to her littermates time and time again. -Lucy is a very physically strong individual, despite her delicate and small stature. She would not like to fight, but in some scraps in her earlier days, she emerged victorious more times than one would expect. WEAKNESSES -She is prone to desperation when feeling lonely, so it leads her to do stupid things like clinging to the wrong dogs. -She is hyper-sensitive to the misdoings of others and her strong sense of justice may cause her to seek revenge when it isn’t appropriate. Her love of the underdog may lead her astray someday. DYSTOPIAN. schneebar , SnoBear , 17.
