London Afghan Hound , Four years , Male .
History; London was born into a world of high-class doggie fashion, high maintenance canines, and a food chain more vicious than anything on earth. The firstborn pup of a pair of top show dogs, from the start he was something special. Like his father, London had what his humans had coined as an 'inverse coat.' His longer fur was pale white, framing his darker face and body. He resembled a tiny black sheep- and certainly was that in his litter. His siblings were pale in face and fur, like their mother, and gave off a cleaner look, overall. The three of them- London, Paris, and France, London being the only male of the bunch- took the show dog world by storm. All three placed in the shows they were entered in since they were young. Ribbons and cups filled their owners rooms, taking up space on shelves beside trophies won by the trio's parents. They were the scourge of shows targeted at their breed, and beacons of beauty in the more upscale canine society that the three were thrown into since birth.
Their pedigree won them favor with friends of their parents, and their ranking won them the hearts of dogs outside of the unit. Hate was a common feeling among other hounds when they took another placing for a show, or another ribbon for excellence, though none of the pups ever did much to quell the disdain. They were the pride of their humans, the pride of their parents, and the vainest creatures alive.
When London was one and a half, however, tragedy struck. An angry hound of his species got loose from his leash during a show and attacked him. They rolled and tumbled while humans attempted to break up the fight to no success. The other dog had five years and several pounds on him, and London was pinned easier than a newborn pup. By the time the humans could finally tear the other canine off him, damage had been done. Blood matted his thick white fur, and his black face was slashed. Upon being rushed to vet, it was determined that his hind right leg was broken, and that his left eye was beyond saving, among a variety of other superficial cuts and bruises. The vets pronounced him unfit for showing anymore, a decree that left London's life in tatters.
From that horrendous day, he has been forced into a very early retirement. He plays the part of a crippled house pet, hobbling around their house like an elderly beast. His parents and owners still care for him, but the light that used to be there whenever he was looked at is gone. He still has good looks, but they are distorted by pain and injury the majority of the time. His sisters attempt to comfort him constantly, but he doesn't listen. All he craves is to go back to being shown.
The last thing he remembers before he woke up on the beaches of the island is being at the vet. He had gone for a checkup, as his leg had been hurting more than usual, and his owners had noticed his stumbling. He had been looked over, given medicine, and put back in his car by his owners... and then, nothing. He can't remember what happened, but he is glad to be on the island instead of trapped in a house that only serves as a reminder of how he can't ever become the epitome of his species any longer. Instead of the terror of the island, and all of its dangerous secrets, he has only curiosity and wonder for the place.
Personality; VAIN
London seems to have been bred with this nasty little trait heating up his blood. He is as vain as a peacock- prone to preening and strutting as if he's on top of the world- and seems to truly believe that he is, in essence, the top dog. He is very careful and considerate of his appearance on a good day, and mildly indifferent on a bad, but overall he is simply arrogant. He
CLEVER
He is very smart. Afghan Hounds are already an intelligent breed, but London takes it further than that. He is as cunning as a fox, trapped in the body of a dog, and puts this fact to use every chance he gets. London has a particular knack for figuring things out that makes him helpful when problems and puzzles arise. He also has a way with tricking others into doing this for him by way of his clever tongue, much as a fox in a fable would.
CURIOUS
His curiosity is overwhelming. London is determined to uncover every secret of the island that there is, starting with the things that go bump in the night, and ending with how they all ended up there. It is a mild obsession that is forming in his mind, and he finds himself incapable of denying the call of adventure that the island puts out. He is so lured in by the mystery of it all, that he is willing to go to great lengths to be the secret keeper of the mysterious island.
BRAVE
Some may call him brave, and others may call him stupid, but London is relatively fearless. He laughs in the face of danger- perhaps because he has no fear of dying- and frisks on the edge of death more often than any other dog he knows. He has such an aversion to taking care that he has forgotten how to take precautionary measures, and because of this, he tends to barrel into all situations blindly. Monsters, death, and intrigue don't sway his lack of fear, and he feels that perhaps he lacks caution because of some great, predestined fate.
SUPERSTITIOUS
Or perhaps just very hooked on the notion, London has a strong belief in Fate and Destiny. He believes that there is a reason why they all have awoken on the island, and he also believes that the island itself will soon tell them. Everything that happens, and will happen, is a test in his mind, and the Island and its mystery inhabitants are charging him with figuring it out. Because of this, London will go to the ends of the earth or, rather, the island, if that would work out better- to find out just what is going on. He has such a strong belief that this was all pre-planned that everything good or bad that happens is a message from the island itself, in his eyes.
Appearance; London is tall, standing in at 29 inches, and he has weight on his side, at a healthy 58 lbs. He has the lean, mean build of his breed underneath all of his fur, and the way he walks shows this fact off- as he paces and struts like he is still in the show dog circuit. His fur is very thick and long, and hangs upon his body like a loose blanket. The texture is very smooth, silky, and soft to the touch, and he prides himself on keeping it as neat as possible.
The most interesting thing about London out of everything would be his coloration. Where most Afghan Hounds are normal, he differs. Instead of an ordinary black or white coat, he sports both shades. His fur is a bright, pallid cream shade, while his face is black as coal, and the two throw his entire appearance into such a contrast that some dogs have had to glance back twice just to believe that he was colored so inversely. The fur around his face is particularly shaggy, and hangs a bit into his single functioning eye, which distresses the canine greatly.
In terms of build, he has high hipbones, characteristic of his breed, and long, slender legs. His paws are small and dainty- perhaps bordering on feminine, if you wish to come down to the absolute truth of it- and his overall shape is wiry, and streamlined. He seems to be the epitome of speed- beneath all of the hair, that is.
London's face is particularly handsome. He has a long snout, ending in a small, black nose that blends with the color on his face quite nicely. He has bright brown eyes, which carry a constant spark of intelligence, rather than the dull shine that many dogs sport. His 'eyebrows,' or the bones that would form such structures, are prominent in his face, and show off his eyes with their slight tilt. His ears are almost unnoticeable amid the mass of fur, as they are similar in color to the majority of his pelt, and are average as far as Afghan Hound ears go.
Overall, London gives off a very clean and regal look, despite the fact that his coat is unbrushed, and his thick fur seems to have obtained a few tangles in the journey that ended up with him and the hundreds of other dogs deposited on the strange island. Despite this, however, he is relatively well groomed, and vain enough to keep this up for as long as possible.
Likes & Dislikes;
LIKES
(+) The ocean- he is in love with the salty tang, the breeze, and the overall feel of salt water on his skin. (+) Music; or, just sound in general. He loves that he still has hearing, if not mobility and sight, and a good howl or muttered song every once in a while is something he adores. (+) Being full. He's particularly good at tracking prey, and moderately decent at actually catching it. (+) Himself. He might have resentment for his condition, but, deep down, he believes that it has made him stronger. (+) Other dogs. He may want to live solo, but he loves company as well, as long as they don't attempt to pity or coddle him.
DISLIKES
(-) Heat. He has long fur, so the sun is his rival, and the water, his ally. (-) Other dogs that are not of clever minds. He hates being around creatures without intelligence. (-) Being made to run, as he knows he can't move very fast. (-) Rude canines who make no attempt at concealing their words. (-) Being hungry. Unfortunately this happens a lot, so he can only call this a mild displeasure, rather than a dislike. He has become used to the gnawing of hunger in his stomach.
Goals & Desires;
GOALS
- To remain on the island as long as possible- he doesn't want to ever go back home. - To strengthen himself and prove himself capable of living solitary- he doesn't want to be constantly surrounded by others who think of him as a disabled fool, and who attempt to comfort him. - To explore every inch of the island- he has such a curiosity for the place, that he wishes to see every inch. He knows of all the things that supposedly go bump in the night, but he plans on visiting all of those places nevertheless.
DESIRES
- Friends who see past his appearance- he wants buddies who enjoy how he is now, with all his physical and mental faults. - To learn all of the islands secrets- why they are there, how they got there, and what exactly inhabits the island besides the new dog population. - A girl who can match him- mind for mind. He wants a partner as cunning as himself.
Strengths & Weaknesses;
STRENGTHS
(+) Strong;
Despite his limitation on movement, London is a very strong dog. He has lean muscles built up under all of his fur, and those, matched with his sharp teeth, usually set him up for a win in a fight. He is rather large for an afghan hound as well, which he surely uses to his advantage.
(+) Swimming;
When in the water, he is held up. Water does not require a working hind leg, as he can swim with only three, and it doesn't require additional sight. He loves swimming because of this, and is very fast in the water, despite all of his thick hair swirling out in the way.
WEAKNESSES
(-) Disabled;
London is blind in his left eye and permanently crippled in his right hind leg. He has a persistent limp and a lack of vision on the opposite side of his body from his crippled leg. He can't run very fast because of this, and mostly hobbles along, like an elderly creature.
(-) Making Friends;
London is a very gruff dog, who views everyone else in the world as creatures who only wish to offer him up some pity on a silver platter. Because of this, once he sees even a spark of pity in another dogs eyes when they are with him, he generally pushes them away and hobbles off.
